ICA Advertising Policy

1.       INTENT

The purpose of this policy is to outline the circumstances and procedures by which the ICA will promote a range of events, products and services related to the objectives of the ICA on behalf of members through advertisements on the ICA website or by other means that are considered appropriate for that activity.

2.       PRELIMINARIES

  • The provision of advertising services is only available to current ICA members who remain in good standing during the period of the offered advertisement.
  • ICA members may be entitled to a discount for some of these products or services and this should be clearly stated in any advertisement.
  • The ICA is not liable for the consequences stemming from advertising of a specific service or product.
  • Advertising information may not reflect the position of the ICA on a particular advertised product or service.

3.       TYPES OF PRODUCTS THAT MAY BE ADVERTISED

The promotion of CPTED under this policy through advertising falls within two categories:

ICA Approved: Advertising of ICA approved products and/or services for ICA members and the general public that are available for free or for a fee

Business Related: Advertising for private business or consultants, related to products and/or services, offered to ICA members and the public for a fee

1) ICA APPROVED OR DEVELOPED PRODUCTS AND SERVICES THAT ARE OPEN TO ICA MEMBERS AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC FOR A FEE OR FREE OF CHARGE

No advertising fee is charged for the following products and services that are open to the public:

a)  ICA Accredited CPTED training

Advertising for CPTED training under this section will only be accepted for CPTED courses accredited under the ICA CAP program (Class A or Class B) that are open to the public on payment of a fee, if applicable, and being offered by ICA members in good standing. Class A lead course instructors also need to hold a current ICCP certification.

b)  ICA webinars

Only webinars conducted by the ICA and its official chapters will be advertised on the ICA website.

c)  Conferences

Conferences that may be advertised are:

i.          ICA International or Regional Conferences; and

ii.        CPTED related conferences or those that may be of interest to the ICA membership.

The main purpose of these conferences should be the promotion of CPTED knowledge and the building of CPTED community and not revenue-generating activity.

d) Any other product or service considered appropriate by the ICA

This may include products or services not listed above that in the opinion of the ICA do not require payment of a fee.

2) BUSINESS RELATED PRODUCTS AND SERVICES OFFERED TO ICA MEMBERS AND THE PUBLIC FOR A FEE

Type of products and services:

  • This includes CPTED related services and products that are offered by ICA members in good standing who conduct business activities directly related to CPTED and the objectives of the ICA.
  • This may include, online or print, books and publications, tools and resources, training and education services, and other opportunities.

Advertising fees:
  • This type of advertising requires the payment of a fee that may be periodically amended by the ICA.
  • Current advertising rates can be found on the ‘Schedule of advertising costs’ published on the ICA website.

4.       ADVERTISING APPROVAL AND PROCESS

ADVERTISING APPROVAL

The Coordinator of the ICA Advertising Committee is responsible for advertising approval. The Coordinator consults and seeks input from the ICA Executive Committee in performing this role as necessary. This may also include seeking a direction from the ICA Executive Committee where appropriate.

APPROVAL PROCESS

The ICA reserves the right to determine the suitability of proposed advertising content prior to acceptance and following receipt and consideration of an approved ‘Application to Advertise’ form submitted by the applicant. This form can be found on the ICA website and outlines the process and information required to be submitted for each type of promotional activity. The process is set out in Attachment 1.

Acceptance of advertising, whether on payment of a fee or otherwise, requires the written acceptance by the advertiser that advertising is accepted subject to the terms of this policy.

Proposed advertising may require amendment prior to acceptance.

The ICA may reject proposed advertising material at its absolute discretion.

SIZE AND CONTENT OF ADVERTISING

The size and content of any proposed advertisement, its word count and any graphics and images will depend on the product or service being offered and requires approval by the ICA.

DURATION OF ADVERTISING

Approved advertising content will be removed from the website following the completion date of the advertised activity or on the expiration of a period of six (6) months, whichever occurs sooner.

RENEWAL OF ADVERTISING

Prior to the expiration of a six (6) month period the advertiser may request approval to continue advertising for ongoing activities by the submission of a subsequent ‘Application to Advertise’.

BREACH OF POLICY - REVOCATION OF ADVERTISING APPROVAL

The following are a breach of the ICA advertising policy:

a)  The advertiser does not remain a current ICA member in good standing during the entire duration of the advertisement; or

b)  The product or service provided by the advertiser is materially different to that which had been approved for advertisement; or

c)  The product or service is not in accordance with the objectives of the ICA; or

d)  The actions of the advertiser, including outside the advertised activity, has the potential to bring the ICA into disrepute.

RESOLUTION PROCESS

The advertiser may submit a written request for reconsideration to the Coordinator of the ICA Advertising Committee and the Executive Director in cases where proposed advertising is rejected, not renewed, or is subsequently removed subject to this policy.

A decision will be provided within a period of fourteen (14) days whether to accept the submission and approve or reinstate the advertising either fully or subject to any conditions or amendments acceptable to the ICA or to reject the submission.

Regardless of the outcome, refunds will not be granted in this case.
